From a single idea to a European journey

What started in 2008 with three friends and a simple idea has grown into a company serving millions of drivers across Europe.

How a simple problem became a company-wide purpose

In 2008, a broken headlight bulb became the starting point of a much larger idea: making car parts easier to find, more fairly priced and more accessible to everyone. That moment led to the creation of AUTODOC’s first online shop and continues to shape how we think about mobility today: practical and customer-driven.

The first spark

AUTODOC began in Berlin with a simple repair and a recurring problem: finding the right replacement part quickly and at a fair price was often unnecessarily complex.
When Vitalij Kungel discussed this with his friends Alexej Erdle and Max Wegner, they recognised a shared frustration among drivers: a lack of transparency, high costs and limited choice.
From that insight, a clear idea emerged: a digital platform that would simplify access to vehicle parts and empower customers to manage repairs themselves.
What began as a focused idea quickly developed into a long-term mission — one that continues to guide AUTODOC today.

Early challenges, bold steps

Starting with a small range of products and limited space, the founders were involved in every detail, from packing orders to speaking directly with customers. Each step brought new challenges — from building supplier relationships to scaling operations and developing a platform that could support growing demand. Over time, persistence turned into progress. Within two years, AUTODOC began serving customers across Germany, followed by expansion into Austria and Switzerland. Step by step, a local initiative became a cross-border company.

Shaping a customer-first culture

From the beginning, listening to customers shaped how AUTODOC evolved.
Feedback was not treated as input, but as direction — influencing product selection, service design and delivery standards.
This mindset became part of the company’s foundation. It supported the development of services like AUTODOC Club and later AUTODOC PRO and continues to guide how the company builds for both private and professional customers today.

    AUTODOC is founded in Berlin-Weißensee

    The first employees join the company

  • 2010

    Strong growth leads to a move within Berlin to Lichtenberg, where AUTODOC opens its first warehouse

  • 2011

    Expansion into Austria and Switzerland

  • 2012

    Market entry into Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and France

  • 2013

    Launch of the in-house brand STARK

  • 2016

    AUTODOC exceeds €100 million in annual revenue for the first time

    Launch of AUTODOC apps for iOS and Android, and introduction of the RIDEX brand

  • 2018

    10th anniversary year marked by revenues exceeding €400 million

    Opening of a new logistics site in Szczecin, Poland

  • 2019

    Move into new offices in Berlin-Charlottenburg

    Expansion of logistics capacity in Szczecin and Berlin by approximately 8,500 m²

    Launch of AUTODOC Club

  • 2020

    Expansion into Ireland, reaching 27 European markets

    Launch of the AUTODOC Club app and introduction of AUTODOC PLUS

  • 2021

    AUTODOC GmbH is converted into a public limited company (AG)

  • 2022

    Major brand relaunch and first TV campaign in Germany, followed by international campaigns

    Launch of AUTODOC PRO in France

    Conversion into a European Company (Societas Europaea, SE)

    Opening of a new logistics hub in Szczecin, Poland

    Opening of a tech hub in Lisbon, Portugal

    15th company anniversary

    Expansion of logistics infrastructure with a new warehouse in Szczecin and a distribution centre in Cheb, Czech Republic
